It’s that time of year again where the spirit of the season can get trampled on in busy parking lots, crowded shopping areas, poorly timed parties and way too many cheese platters. It’s easy to get hunkered down under the weight of expectations, the bone chilling cold weather and that nagging feeling that in bed and under the covers is the only place to be. But something else can be true for the spirit of this time of year…we can live it.
Think joy to the world! I know there’s quite a bit going on in the world NOT to be joyous about but what if for your own family, your own community and for its wonderful ripple effect out into the world you could find a way to tap into the real spirit of the season: GIVING. What if you gave more of your time and your patience? A seat at your dinner table? All those unworn clothes and shoes? The toys? The books that are collecting dust? A few extra hugs or a big smile? A yoga class even? No matter how little you think you have to give, someone out there definitely has less than you and why not use this season to renew your spirit through giving?
Start with fabulous you! What can you do for someone else? What small thing? Is there a big thing? It doesn’t matter the size, really. It’s the doing that matters. Involve your family, especially kids, your partner, your closest friends, your neighbour(s) or your co-workers. Take it upon yourself to bring people together to give. To consciously give to someone or something. Spread some Light. Share some Love. Just be what you want to see and feel around you this season. Don’t hold back. It can lead to the best holiday season ever.
Light + Love,
Alicia Mathlin.
Giving is the antidote to emptiness.
It is the meaning we seek, the cure for soul wounds, the spark of enlightenment. Generosity is the traction of spiritual evolution: We give, we grow.
Be the giver.
You’ll surprise yourself with your capacity for bliss.
You’ll make friends. You will smile more.
You’ll bend time and heal the past.
You’ll feel richer, healthier, shinier.
You’ll feel vulnerable and mighty. Tender and indestructible.
When you give it, you cross that sacred divide where love is no longer a concept but is your soul made manifest.
You. Alive.
Gorgeous.
